PSA International’s Group CEO, Mr. Ong Kim Pong, will be a key speaker at the Singapore-Norway Innovation Conference (SNIC) 2024. The event, taking place on November 6-7 at Conrad Centennial, Singapore, promises to be a highlight in the maritime industry’s calendar.

Focus on AI and autonomy

Mr. Ong will contribute to the discussion on “AI and autonomy in maritime operations”, exploring how cutting-edge technologies are transforming port operations and shipboard activities. Attendees will gain insights into the efficiency and eco-friendly advancements driving the industry forward. Mr. Ong’s session will cover PSA’s transformation as it evolved from conventional to fully automated operations, leveraging technology spanning across algorithms, data/video analytics, automation, autonomous technology and AI.

Commitment to innovation and sustainability

Mr. Ong, who has been with PSA since 1997, held several regional leadership positions including stints in Belgium, Italy, Turkey, India and Hong Kong for PSA International before taking over the helm as Group CEO in 2024. During his stints across PSA’s network of terminals, Kim Pong has been instrumental in propelling the company’s international presence and service excellence. One of his notable achievements includes the successful inauguration of Tuas Port in Singapore, which features the deployment of innovative technologies and is poised to be the world’s largest fully automated container terminal upon its completion in the 2040s. Sustainability is also a key emphasis for PSA, which is dedicated to reducing its environmental footprint through clean energy investments and emissions reduction, perfectly aligning with SNIC’s theme of smart energy and decarbonization.

Strategic growth and collaborative focus

Under Mr. Ong’s leadership, PSA is building partnerships with like-minded customers and stakeholders on a series of Node to Network initiatives to better coordinate between upstream and downstream ports, which will uplift shipping schedule reliability and overall network efficiency. At the same time, PSA is also constantly seeking to grow its fabric of port networks and ecosystems, to be a leading global port operator and supply chain partner.

SNIC 2024, supported by maritime leaders from Singapore and Norway, will gather 250 participants, including shipowners, port operators, financial entities, and government agencies. The conference aims to foster innovation, sustainability, and growth in the maritime sector through dynamic sessions and valuable networking opportunities.
