Norwegian in Singapore Maria Sahota Makes History in World Marathon Challenge

We are pleased to highlight Maria Sahota, a Norwegian residing in Singapore, who has made history as the first Norwegian woman to complete the World Marathon Challenge, running seven marathons across seven continents in seven consecutive days.

Her achievement reflects not only extraordinary physical endurance, but also the mindset, discipline, and purpose that define her work as an author and executive coach.

Historic Milestone

Maria completed the North Pole Marathon in July 2025. With the World Marathon Challenge achieved this year, she has now earned membership in the prestigious Marathon Grand Slam Club.

Marathon Grand Slam Club

This elite distinction is reserved for athletes who have completed a marathon on all seven continents as well as at the North Pole. Only a very small number of individuals worldwide have reached this milestone. It is considered one of the rarest accomplishments in endurance sport.

A Challenge Driven by Purpose

Maria undertook this global challenge with a deeply personal mission. She ran to raise funds for cancer research, in memory of someone close to her. With that mission guiding her, she says there was never a moment of doubt about finishing. Every step carried meaning.

She often shares the mantra that has shaped both her running and her life:

β€œPain is temporary, quitting is forever.”

Running, she explains, has taught her to process pain rather than avoid it. It is a reminder that discomfort is inevitable in both sport and life. Resilience is built by moving through it, not around it. For her, each marathon mirrors life itself: demanding, unpredictable, and transformative.

Resilience and Partnership

Maria completed every race side by side with her husband, Rob Schimek. They crossed each finish line together. Their shared journey reflects the importance of partnership, mutual support, and determination. It also highlights the strength that comes from facing challenges as a team.

Maria’s accomplishment continues to inspire many. It shows what becomes possible when purpose, preparation, and determination come together.

NBAS congratulates Maria on this outstanding achievement and is pleased to highlight her representation of Norway on the global stage.

Maria was recently interviewed by MoneyFM, where she shared more about the experience and the purpose behind the challenge.
